The Conservatives have announced that, if they win the next General Election, they would restrict access to social media for under 16s. They have already put forward amendments in Parliament aimed at bringing this in. In practice, this could mean new age limits and tighter checks to stop children under 16 from signing up or using certain platforms.

The Government is now looking into this too, and the country faces some big choices about what comes next.

Many parents are concerned about social media’s impact on children, from exposure to harmful content and the impact on mental health, to the wider question of whether childhood itself is being eroded.
