David Reed MP is encouraging former members of the Armed Forces across Exmouth and Exeter East to check whether they are entitled to a deferred Armed Forces pension, backing a campaign led by the Forces Pension Society.
The Ministry of Defence estimates that more than 15,000 pension benefits remain unclaimed, with around 2,000 deferred pensions going unclaimed every year. In many cases, the sums involved can be significant.
A deferred pension may be available to people who left the Armed Forces before qualifying for an immediate pension, depending on when and how long they served.
David said:
"Many former service personnel may not realise they have a pension waiting to be claimed. If you served in the Armed Forces and left before qualifying for an immediate pension, it is well worth checking whether you are entitled to money that is rightfully yours."
The Forces Pension Society has produced a simple online flowchart to help veterans determine whether they may be eligible to claim. Those who believe they qualify can then contact Veterans UK (https://forcespensionsociety.org/unclaimedpensions) or call 0800 085 3600.
