Stand Up for Exmouth and Exeter East: Demand Fair Water Bills and Accountability

The recent decision by the Labour government to cut the £50 water bill subsidy—a relief our region has depended on since 2013—is a bitter blow to families and businesses across Exmouth and Exeter East. For a decade, this subsidy has been a lifeline, easing the burden of high water costs in the South West. Now, without it, many are left wondering how they’ll manage as water bills rise once again.

In the lead-up to the election, Labour assured us they would hold water companies accountable. They made promises about tackling water mismanagement, protecting our beaches, and ensuring communities like ours would see real change. But now, just months after taking office, it’s clear that those promises have evaporated.

This comes at a time when our community is still reeling from a summer of environmental and economic disruption. Beach closures throughout the season hurt local businesses and our wellbeing. Exmouth’s treasured coastline, which should be a source of pride and prosperity, has been compromised. We can't afford another summer of this.

To make matters worse, South West Water announced yet another price hike for customers. They have failed to address the root problems affecting our waterways, yet they’re asking us to foot the bill. It’s unacceptable.
