I have co-signed a letter to the Secretary of State for Justice, David Lammy, voicing our serious concern about the government’s proposed changes to our legal system that would remove the right to a jury trial for thousands of offences.

Trial by jury is a bedrock of British justice. It deserves to be defended, not quietly shelved in the name of expediency.

I know many local people feel the same way: justice should be fair, transparent and for all. It is right that we stand together to protect these fundamental rights.
