Great to be on a farm early this morning in Lympstone, meeting with the NFU and farmers from across the constituency.
Our main topic was the successful campaign to force a Government U turn on the Family Farm Tax. After months of tireless campaigning, I was over the moon that, just before Christmas, the Government finally listened and raised the threshold from £1m to £2.5m.
I’m thankful common sense has prevailed, and the Government has listened. Our farmers have worked relentlessly to show just how damaging these proposals would have been for our rural economy and farming community, and their voices could not be ignored.
While the fight continues to make sure our farmers get a fair deal in the long term, for now we can celebrate a very welcome and hard won victory.
