It’s hard to believe that a year has passed since I was elected as your Member of Parliament. I still remember standing at the count in Exeter Science Park- proud, humbled, and aware of the responsibility ahead.

From the start, I’ve aimed to be a visible and accessible voice for our community, both locally and in Westminster. Setting up a full-time office in Exmouth was one of the first steps. It now handles thousands of calls and emails each month, supporting people with everything from housing and benefits to school places and broader national concerns. It’s demanding work, but vital- and we take it seriously.

Meeting constituents in person is one of the most rewarding parts of this role. My roaming advice surgeries across the constituency give people the chance to raise concerns directly- whether it’s support for a child with SEND, a housing issue, or simply a listening ear.

Locally, I’ve worked to push key issues up the agenda- especially the unacceptable levels of sewage in our rivers and along the coastline. I’ve challenged South West Water for visible plans and funding, chaired local roundtables, and served on the Water Bill committee to push for stronger protections and accountability.

In Parliament, I’ve spoken up on everything from national security to farming, and I continue to support local schools, small businesses, charities and community organisations across Exmouth and Exeter East.

As someone with a military background, it’s been an honour to serve on shadow front bench defence team. With the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines based at Lympstone and a strong veteran presence in our area, these issues hit close to home. Representing their interests in Parliament has been a particular point of pride.

If you’ve contacted me, come to a surgery, or stopped me in town- thank you. Your views shape the work I do, and your feedback is essential.

There’s still much to do, and the summer will be busy with visits and advice sessions. If you’d like to get in touch, please email [email protected] or call 01395 493213.

It’s a privilege to serve everyone in our constituency- and I’ll keep working hard on your behalf.
