People's Emergency Briefing
David speaking at the screening

Thank you to Exmouth Town Council  for hosting and inviting me to attend the People’s Emergency Briefing in Exmouth last week.

It was a valuable opportunity to hear a range of perspectives on the challenges posed by a warming planet and what greater national resilience in the face of it looks like- and to learn more about how these issues are affecting people here in Exmouth & Exeter East and across the country.

At the end of the screening, I was pleased to take questions from members of the audience and discuss some of the issues raised during the evening.

The timing was particularly interesting, as a couple of weeks ago I led a debate in Parliament on national resilience- a topic inextricably linked to the threat of a warming planet. We cannot shy away from the difficult conversations about funding and trade-offs that come with tackling this challenge. Resources are finite, and making the right choices about where to invest will require honesty, courage and cross-party cooperation. Equally, no nation can solve this alone. It is vital that the UK continues to lead internationally, holding the world’s biggest carbon emitters to account and pushing for the bold, coordinated action that the scale of this challenge demands.

Since the briefing, it has been great to hear from some of the experts featured in the film, who have reached out to continue the conversation. I very much look forward to meeting them in person in the months ahead to discuss how we can turn ideas into action.
