I recently visited Supacat and Blackhill Engineering to meet with Nick Ames, Chief Exec of SC Group and see the work they’re doing at the heart of our local manufacturing and defence industry.
At Supacat I saw the production of the Jackal 3 chassis and met the team behind this important capability for our armed forces.
Over at Blackhill Engineering I learned more about their specialist steelwork operation, which supports Supacat and also contributes to major national infrastructure projects.
Both companies work together to provide skilled jobs and apprenticeships for people across the constituency and wider region and make a significant contribution to our local economy.
I’m grateful to the teams for taking the time to show me around and for the work they do.
I also finished the day with a chance to get behind the wheel!
Visits like this underline how vital our local engineering sector is to the UK’s defence capability, and I’ll continue making the case for long-term support and investment to keep it strong.
